What is Doc-U-Scrip™?
Doc-U-Scrip™ is a program for Windows CE PocketPC devices. It enables the user to easily send
prescriptions electronically directly to participating pharmacies. In addition, pharmacies can communicate
directly with the prescriber over the secure connection and send refill requests directly to the prescriber's
electronic device. The application will recall a patient's prior prescriptions and also allow the user to select
from hundreds of their favorite prescriptions for fast, accurate, text based, prescription writing. It completely
eliminates the dangers associated with messy handwriting, while creating an extensive catalog of all your
prescription writing activity. Prescriptions can also be printed or faxed.
What is ‘e-Prescribing’?
e-Prescribing refers to the secure, HIPAA compliant, encoded communication link between a prescriber and
pharmacies that allows the exchange of prescription data. In addition to sending new prescriptions, the
prescriber can also receive and respond to refill requests from pharmacies. With the portability afforded
with our software, this can be done from virtually any location where the prescriber has internet access.
How is a prescription generated?
The completed prescription can be printed for the patient, or transmitted securely from the device over a
wireless network directly to the pharmacy. For electronic prescriptions, we have partnered with SureScripts®,
and Doc-U-Chart™ is a SureScripts® Solutions Provider.
What if my state requires a special prescription format?
Multiple formats are available for the user's selection. Support is provided for any particular requirement that
your state may have. If you find that your state has a requirement that is not available in the program, it will
be created for you. Just contact Doc-U-Chart™.
What are the limitations?
Currently, no scheduled drugs may be transmitted electronically. In addition, if a pharmacy inadvertently sends
a refill request for a scheduled drug, our software allows the user to notify the pharmacy that the request for
a scheduled drug refill must be made by phone or fax. When prescribing, Doc-U-Scrip™ will separate scheduled and
non-scheduled drugs for a patient, and give the user the option to print the scheduled drugs, while transmitting
the non-scheduled drugs electronically. Of course, in some states scheduled drugs require special prescription
forms which may preclude printing scheduled prescriptions.
Is there drug interaction checking?
No, not in this initial release of the e-prescribing enabled product.
What else does it do?
Doc-U-Scrip also has these valuable features:
- A custom Medication list form can be printed, listing the dates, quantities, and refills for all the patient's medications.
- Easily recall and select from all drugs previously prescribed for a patient which makes renewals a snap!
- Print a list of all patients for whom a particular drug was prescribed. Users have found this feature very helpful with drug recalls.
Is there a licensing fee?
All fees are included in the subscription fee, and subscriptions can be purchased by the month, quarter, or year.
While the exact cost of the application depends on the length of subscription, the monthly cost is around $50-$60.
We encourage you to download the demo and try it for free for 90 days.
What platform does it run on?
This new release is available for Windows XP®, including Windows XP Tablet Edition®, and Windows Mobile
PPC® devices, like the Dell Axim® or the iPaq®. Simply download the version for the device you plan
to run the application on.
What do I need to get started?
In addition to our demo software, you will need a connection to the internet. For printing, of course, you will
need access to a printer. As you complete your download request, you will give Doc-U-Chart™ the information
necessary to establish your SureScripts® prescribing account. It takes Doc-U-Chart™ about 48 hours to establish
your account with SureScripts® before you will be able to access the Doc-U-Scrip™ Server and begin prescribing.
Pharmacies will see you listed as being enabled to accept electronic refill requests and send electronic
prescriptions.
How do I know if it will work on my device?
Simply take advantage of the free download and try it out, for 90 days, for free! If you
like it, then purchase a subscription when your 90 day trial period runs out!
